Each year Lytham in Bloom organises a Local Community Awards scheme to encourage private households and businesses to produce outstanding floral and garden displays. Residents and businesses don't have to "enter" the competition as committee members of Lytham in Bloom will walk around the town and make a list of impressive premises. The Chairman of the Lytham in Bloom committee will then look at every address on the lists and produce a short list with the final judging of the short list being carried out by a North West in Bloom judge. This will take place in late July/early August. The judges will look for:
- Bright, colourful floral displays whether in hanging baskets, pots, planters or gardens
- Well maintained and weed free gardens and well manicured lawns
Judges can only consider gardens and displays that are visible from the footpath/road, so generally speaking that means front gardens, patios, wall displays that are not hidden behind high hedges. The 2011 Local Community Award Ceremony took place at the Clifton Arms Hotel on Thursday 22nd September.
