Plans for 2011

Each year we need to continually improve the environment in which we live. Working with other trusts and organisations we seek to identify projects which will enhance our local community. All the "green spaces" in Lytham have been renovated over the last few years - the Library Gardens and the Fire Station being the last two.

Lytham in participating in the internation "Communities in Bloom" competition for the first time. Judging by an international panel will take place on Wednesday 20th July. In addition to the judges visit, Lytham in Bloom will produce a portfolio to show the judges all of the activities that take place throughout the year. This year we are also producing a short film (10 to 12 mins) which will be able to be used as a promotional tool for Lytham. We are working with Hucklebery Films of Accrington (www.huckleberryfilms.co.uk) to finalise the film by mid July at which time it will be able to be viewed online.

Projects figuring highly for the immediate future include:

Bulb Planting
More bulb planting. Each Autumn for the last few years Lytham in Bloom has, with the help of volunteers including Kirkham Open Prison, planted over 250,000 bulbs on the promenade, along West Beach, Station Road and Cleveland Road and outside the entrance to the Aegon Offices. In the Autumn of 2009 we planted 18,000 bulbs outside the entrance to Lytham Hall and also along Park View
Road/Mythop Road opposite Park View 4U. The spring 2010 daffodil displays around Lytham, although some three weeks later than normal were as spectacular as 2009 which many thought was the best display for years. The Autumn of 2010 will see another 30,000 or so bulbs planted around Lytham.

Old RNLI Slipway
The cobble stone slipway on the promenade outside the old RNLI station by the windmill has been unused and unkempt for some time. As part of Lytham’s heritage, Lytham in Bloom is talking to Lytham Heritage Group and working with HMP Kirkham to renovate thsi area. This will add to the overall cleanliness of the foreshore area already so much cleaner now as a result of the efforts over the last two years of the Friends of the Estuary. It is understood that Lytham Heritage have plans to renovate the old RNLI station and make it an extension of the museum at the windmill.

The Old Scruples Site
The Lytham St. Annes Civic Society, Lytham Heritage Trust and Lytham in Bloom working in coordination with FBC are looking at plans to bring the old Scruples site back into community use.

The Promenade
Lytham in Bloom is working with HMP Kirkham to renovate and repaint the shelters along the Promenade and we will continue to refurbish the benches along the prom.

Lytham Library
The garden to the side of the Library on Bannister Street has been renovated, see Recent Projects for details.

Fylde 2020 Vision
Lytham in Bloom is working with FBC and other community groups to identify improvements to the town to be implemented over the next 10 years but also to identify those urgent improvements required to be in place before the 2012 Open Golf Championship returns to Lytham.
